TEC Elementary Professional Licensure Program

The Education Cooperative, in partnership with Framingham State College, will be offering elementary school teachers, grades 1-6, who already hold an Initial License the opportunity to earn their Professional License by completing a one-year, two course "district based" program. This program has been approved by the Massachusetts Department of Education. Teachers earning a Professional License in this manner are then free to earn a master's degree at a place that is convenient to them or to continue at Framingham State College. The program is also a way for teachers who already possess a Professional License to obtain Professional Development Points and to demonstrate that they are highly qualified educators.

The TEC/FSC program requires completion of special versions of the FSC courses, Literacy Instruction and Connecting Mathematical Concepts and Teaching. The courses will meet from 3:45-7:00 PM from the end of January to May and include a prescribed number of hours in class and mentoring activities. In addition to becoming qualified for a Professiional License, teachers will earn 8 semester hours of graduate level, master's level courses. They will receive PDPs for the mentoring and advising time. Both courses in the program will be transferable into several FSC master's programs. The second course will run from August to December.

Program Components

  • A cohort model, where participants go through the program at the same time
  • Two course district-based model

  • The program can be completed in one year. Those who choose to continue at Framingham State College after the two courses are completed may continue to complete a Master's degree.

  • Mentoring will be scheduled based on the participants' availability

The 2009-2010 cost is approximately $2200 for TEC member schools and $2500 for non-TEC applicants. This fee covers the tuition for the two courses, the mentoring and advising, and the PDP's.
