Goal:

To provide participants with the skills necessary to become effective educational leaders with licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Licenses:

  • Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent
  • Principal/Assistant Principal
  • Supervisor/Director
  • Special Education Administrator

Program Components:

  • A cohort model, where participants go through the program at the same time
  • Five administrative courses provided by Boston University
  • A 25-hour pre-practicum and 300-hour practicum usually at the candidate's job site
  • Participation in several seminars and an orientation session
  • Completion of a portfolio documenting how the candidate has demonstrated the Professional Standards for Administrators

Time:

  • The program can be completed in one or two years depending upon when the components are done. Those who choose to continue at Boston University after the five courses are completed can work to get a C.A.G.S. or a Master's degree
  • Courses meet on Wednesday evenings from September to June from 4:00-9:30
  • The first class runs from May to June and the others run from September to May

Requirements:

  • A completed application form
  • Two recommendations
  • Passing score on MTEL Communications and Literacy test
  • Copy of current teaching certificate
  • Official transcripts
  • Statement
  • Résumé
  • Proof of 18 credit hours in subject area for Supervisor/Director candidates
  • $50 application fee

Cost:

  • The 2010-2011 cost is $8750 for courses and $1200 for the practicum.
