Brenny and Taylor set out on an internship to explore the world of scientific research and discovery through Physics.
They interned at a major University in Cambridge working along side world-renowned scientists. It immediately became to clear to them how much knowledge and information they would learn through this internship experience.
They shadowed scientists, often assisted as needed, and were given their own research project using electromagnetic radiation to study distant light systems.
Taylor says his internship was more than he could ever have imagined. Not only did he learn scientific computer skills to broaden his horizon to learn, but also he was exposed to materials so he could learn more about atmospheric physics and quantum mechanics.
Both interns really discovered their joy for scientific research.
They learned the benefits of being organized to be more effective with their work assignments.
Taylor and Brenny’s research work has been published on their mentor’s research web site.

Lindsey thinks she might want to become a lawyer. She wanted to participate in our internship program to learn how our legal system works. Before she begins the process of applying to college she wanted some real work experience in this career,
She interned at a courthouse in the metrowest area outside of Boston.
She spent part of her day working in the clerk’s office and the other half of her day observing trials, hearings and arraignments. She often sat along side the bailiff to have them explain more about the proceedings she witnessed each day.
Attention to detail is important to this career, says Lindsey. As I often listened to cases, I would put myself in the position of the jury and decide how I would find various defendants as each case was heard. During her first week she was witness to a pre-trial arraignment of an upcoming alleged murder.

Max attends Hopkinton High School and loves archaeology and history. He would love to discover something that might someday be a historical landmark. His internship experience put him at a museum site where he participated in an archeological dig.
As they found and explored new items, Max learnt to catalogue each, tell the difference between artifacts and the importance of being organized.
“I am definitely enjoying this experience. Searching through the dirt and realizing that I might find something that hasn’t been seen for hundreds of years is such an awesome feeling.” This internship gave Max the proof that he needed to realize that archeology is a career he is seriously interested. He even decided that taking AP Art History in high school could be very beneficial to this career choice.

Jessica says this internship helped her to decide that she definitely wants to pursue a career in architecture. “It was such a good experience and I learned so much,” said Jess. Her assignments were relevant and meaningful. Everyone in the office was eager to teach her what they knew. Learning new skills and acquired knowledge that can be applied to a school or professional work setting will be useful as she determines her college career path. In architecture it’s important to work collaboratively when making decisions. Often the work of an architect can overlap with that of an interior designer. This internship challenged many of Jess’s skills and allowed her to use academic classroom knowledge.
Examples of Jess’s internship work plan included how to use 3-D visualization tools, observe a design team in process, observe construction field activities and how to read design plans.

Hannah knew exactly what she wanted her internship experience to be. She loves government and politics. She wanted to know what politicians are really like and the kinds of work they and other staff members at the State House do on a daily basis. She’s curious about government on both a state and national level and would love to learn more about how each interact.
Her internship helped her meet knowledgeable adults who are passionate about issues, explained politics on a state level and helped Hannah understand how she can become more involved with her own community.
Hannah learnt the value of being able to adapt to a fast paced office. Her co-workers were very nice and she appreciated how much trust and respect they all gave her as a high school student.
Hannah couldn’t imagine obtaining this valuable experience from the classroom or any textbook she would read. She attended internship lecture programs and seminars where she was able to hear speakers such as Martha Coakley and Treasurer Cahill. |
Hear from our Parents:
My daughter completed an internship during the Summer and into the Fall of her senior year. It was a very positive experience for her. She learned a lot and matured, becoming more independent, self-confident and better able to navigate social situations in a professional environment. It also affirmed her interest in her chosen field and we are certain that it made a difference in college admissions, not only because it showed sincere interest in her area of study but also because it provided real-life experience that she could bring to the classroom. |
Many thanks to TEC's Internship Program and their staff. We are huge champions of your Internship Program. My daughter's nursing internship was a very valuable one. She will take her experience into the next chapter of her life, as a college nursing student, and be wiser for it. |
TEC's Internship Program is another example of the many educational opportunities offered to students to explore their potential options for a career before they apply to colleges. My daughter's internship in law provided her with the ability to focus on what she wants for her future. The office staff took such good care and interest in this internship experience.
This positive Internship program was rewarding and helped to make a difference for our daughter. |
Hear from our Business Sponsors:
Our company benefited from our participation in the TEC Internship Program.
We had more stories in the paper than we would have because in essence we had another reporter. The intern posted stories to the newspaper, web site, and laid out pages on deadline days. As the editor I get the chance to work with bright students that are passionate and interested in learning about a career in journalism. The skill level of TEC Interns is extraordinary. We are in the business of sharing information and ideas. This internship partnership, makes us think about what we are doing and what we can do better. |
The TEC interns bring a sense of of enthusiasm and curiosity to our hospital staff and patients. Our staff enjoys teaching in the hopes of influencing these students to pursue a career in healthcare. It is rewarding for the staff to see each student progress weekly and gain comfort interacting with the patients in a hospital setting. |
